Occasionally, I'll recommend some good hip-hop to friends/acquaintances and instant disgust is almost always the instant reaction. Now, I don't place the blame entirely on their ignorance (keyword: entirely), because there is a lot of trashy hip-hop flooding the radio/internet (thank you, Myspace).
However, dismissing hip-hop entirely is a poor choice. There's plenty of underground hip-hop out there that is, unfortunately, largely unnoticed by the general public.
