Sometimes it's good to just chill out to some moody, atmospheric music.

This mix is inspired by countless sleepless nights, staring into the dark, and letting your mind wander.

01. A.R. Kane - [mp3] Lollita

A.R. Kane was a British dream pop/shoegaze band from East London, England. I love the way the guitars create a dreamy, atmospheric soundscape, that is almost poetic in the way it draws you in. When the song is over, you won't want to stop listening.

02. Air - [mp3] Radian

The French duo that is Air is an obvious choice for a mix such as this. This song comes off of their highly underrated '10 000hz Legend', and is, I think, one of the best tracks on the album. The eerie monk-like chant in the beginning, is a perfect build up to the expertly woven textures and instrumentation that follows. I cannot find a single thing wrong with this track. Check out '10 000hz Legend' if you are an Air fan. Many people overlook the record, and that my friends, is a huge mistake.

03. Sebastien Tellier - [mp3] Le Long De La Riviere Tendre

Another French artist sneaks his way onto the track. This one is a perfect track for an evening summer drive, windows down, the sun slowly setting on the horizon.

04. Claire Voyant - [mp3] He Is Here

Some more excellent dream pop, this time from Claire Voyant, an incredible band from Sacramento, California. Victoria Lloyd's songwriting/vocals flow across the track effortlessly, creating a sad, lonely feel, but with an emotional pull that few artists can pull off so effectively.

05. Boards of Canada - [mp3] roygbiv

Any Boards of Canada song could have fit into this mix, but this particular one holds a special place in my heart. The simple, but effective melodies meld together perfectly with eerie vocal samples, and crunchy drums.

06. Closedown - [mp3] Bumblebee

Some overlooked shoegaze/ambient. Always sad. I'm always surprised when ambient/shoegaze/post-punk fans have never heard of Closedown. Check out 'Nearfield', the album this song came from.

07. Autistic Daughters - [mp3] Richest Woman In The World

From the newly released 'Uneasy Flowers', this Autistic Daughters song lives in a dreamy state of sadness and despair. The song is so full of rich texture, that upon each listen, I hear more and more layers, adding to the feel of this amazing track. Definitely check out 'Uneasy Flowers'. I mean, Pitchfork liked it, that means it's good, right?

08. Laura - [mp3] Cambridge Bypass

The closing track to this mix is a lovely song by Laura, a sublime post-rock group. This track comes from the album 'Radio Swan Is Down', an excellent album full of brilliant instrumentation, and powerful build-ups, with releases that never fail to make the build-up worth the wait.

Well, that was fun. If you like what you hear...head to your local independent record store and buy it!
